Renewable Fuel Challenges and Opportunities
Matti Lievonen, CEO of EcoCeres discusses renewable fuel challenges and opportunities with Conversation of the Century editor Ronan Kavanagh.
Industry status and regional pattern
• Renewable energy demand continues to rise globally, with Europe, the United States, Asia, Canada and Latin America all experiencing policy mandates (mandates) and market growth.
• The market is highly regionalized: the United States on non-North American raw materials to implement 50% greenhouse gas emissions discount, restrict imports; Europe to implement local raw materials priority policy; China, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Australia and other places gradually introduce aviation fuel (SAF) mandatory blending policy.
• The global market is fragmented and lacks uniform standards. Enterprises need to have global layout capabilities to cope with different regional policies and supply chain requirements.
Policy-driven and business demand
• European SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) mandatory blending since 2024, the initial target of 2%, the future will be gradually increased, Germany intends to cancel the "double counting" policy, to promote the actual physical consumption rise.
• The U.S. policy environment fluctuates, but RIN (renewable fuel identification number) demand is still growing, and the Trump period has not hindered the expansion of renewable fuel applications.
• Asian countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China) are developing or have proposed SAF mandatory requirements, indicating long-term commercial demand potential.
Technology and Corporate Strategic Advantage
• EcoCeres, as a pure renewable fuel enterprise, has independent intellectual property rights and core technologies, covering catalysts, production processes, raw material processing and end products.
• The company uses a modular plant model to achieve rapid deployment, such as the Malaysia project from construction to production in only two years, a record.
• The globalization strategy is clear: has been in China, Malaysia built production bases, and plans to further expand, build covering raw materials, production, logistics, sales and policy advocacy of the complete ecosystem.
Sustainability and Certification Systems
• Emphasizing full supply chain traceability, customers can use the application to track fuel raw material sources to ensure environmental credibility.
• Advocate the establishment of a unified European-level certification database, to avoid 27 countries in their own way led to the certification of fragmentation, to enhance the global mutual recognition possibilities.
• Has published the second Sustainability Report, participating in the United Nations Global Compact, committed to become the industry sustainable benchmark.
Market confidence and customer cooperation
• Obtaining British Airways, Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific and other airlines long-term off-take agreements, reflecting the market's technology and delivery capabilities of trust.
• Customer focus includes: sustainability certification, price stability, delivery security and full life cycle carbon reduction effect.
Future Vision
• Committed to becoming the world's leading renewable fuel company, not only pursuing scale expansion, but also hoping to lead technological innovation and industry standard setting.
• The goal is to use new technologies and sustainable raw materials to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help achieve the 1.5°C temperature control target.
• Emphasize corporate social responsibility, pay attention to the operation of the local community development and people's livelihood improvement, to achieve commercial value and social value of the double promotion.
